Vasanti Mount Olympus Silky Eye Shadow Duo Review, Swatches and Photos

Vasanti is a Canadian brand started in 1999 and based out of Toronto, ON. Though I have known about their existence for a number of years, this is the first time I have actually had the opportunity to test their products. On a recent lunch break from work, I meandered my way to the local Rexall and picked up the Mount Olympus Silky Eye Shadow Duo.

 The two colours in Mount Olympus are a silvery taupe with a slight gold shimmer and a warm, golden brown shimmer, described by Vasanti as  "champagne topaz and coppery bronze". The texture of these shadows is soft and powdery – they tend to kick up a fair amount of dust when being picked up with a brush, but apply in a smooth, even fashion and are very easy to blend. The pigmentation on these shadows tends to be a little on the sheer side, but they are buildable for dense colour. Although the formula is soft, it would benefit from being a little more creamy or clingy to enhance the opaqueness.

The shades themselves are gorgeous! In my opinion you can’t go wrong with shimmery neutrals, and I really appreciate that they included both a warm and a cool neutral. My favourite shade is the silvery taupe because on top of being a taupe fiend, I also love the complexity of this shade. While its base leans cool, the inclusion of the fins gold shimmer also allows it to be paired with warmer colours. Very versatile!

The other positives about this product are the packaging and the price point. First, the packaging is very compact, tiny even. For comparison I included the above photo to give you a sense of scale.  For me this is a huge plus, because I hate unnecessarily bulky packaging. But don’t let the tiny packaging fool you – this compact gives you 3.0 grams of shadow for the very reasonable price of $20.00 CA. In comparison, MAC shadows are $18.00 for 1.5 grams, which means you are getting twice as much product for only $2.00 more!
