MAC Peacocky EOTD Tutorial

I have a confession to make - I hauled all 15 of the Peacocky Mega Metal Shadows! Though I know Peacocky is old news due to the imminent release of a certain collection featuring a female cartoon heroine, I thought I would challenge myself to bring you a series of EOTD's featuring all 15 shades. Not all at once of course. That would be crazy talk.

For this look I wanted to use some unlikely colours together. I typically do not like oranges/coppers so I thought I would start the challenge there. The four shades I selected to be used for this look are Tweet Me, Peek-At-You, Paparazz-She and Odalisque.

Clockwise from left: Tweet Me, Peek-At-You, Odalisque and Paparazz-She.

Products Used (all MAC unless otherwise noted)

Select Cover Concealer NW 25
Medium Blot Powder Loose
Tweet Me, Peek-At-You, Paparazz-She and Odalisque Mega Metal Shadows
Graphblack Technakohl Liner
Siahi Fluidline Liner

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara Very Black
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara Clear
Anastasia Brow Powder Duo Brunette

1. Conceal undereye area and set with powder. Fill in brows with brow powder and set with clear mascara. In the center of the lid apply Paparazz-She with a 242 brush.

2. Using the same brush, apply Tweet Me to the inner and outer 1/3 of the eye lid, blending over the edges of Paparazz-She. Also run Tweet me along the bottom lash line.

3. Using Graphblack liner, tightline the upper eyelid creating a thicker line towards the outer edge. Using a 219 brush, smudge the liner out.

4. Using the 219, pack Odalisque on top of the black liner, also using this shadow to cut the crease, creating a "V" on the outer edge of the eye. Also sweep the shadow halfway on the bottom lid, close to the lashes.

5. Using a 266, line the top lashes with Siahi fluidline, creating a small angled cat tail at the end. Apply Peek-At-You on the inner tear duct using a clean 219.

6. Finish by curling the lases and applying black mascara.

I think this look is a bit unusual as it contrasts and layers warm and cool colours. Odalisque turns a mossier green when layered on top of Paparazz-She. I wasn't sure at first if this combination would be too muddy or strange, but I think it works. I could see this eye working very well in the fall, maybe with a copper coloured lipgloss. Photos were taken indoors with a flash, so keep in mind the contrast between warm and cool is more striking in person.

MAC Peacocky Eyeshadows: Dandizette, Peek-At-You and Unflappable Review and Swatches

This post is late, and I apologize for that! MAC's Peacocky collection (see B2's preview post here) was released weeks ago but many locations still have the Mega Metal Shadows still available - so if you like what you see, you may still be able to get them!

Jill went and bought ALL of the 15 Peacocky eyeshadows but I only splurged on three. I'm very, very, very (too) good at talking myself out of buying things sometimes. I only intended to get two, but I accidentally discovered I needed three. More on that later. Now, photos!

I bought Peek-At-You, Dandizette and Unflappable.

L-R: Unflappable, Dandizette and Peek-At-You

Peek-At-You
Peek-At-You is a frosted yellow-white, although it reads slightly peachier than yellow, in my opinion. It's a very soft, natural shade on my skintone (NC15-NC20) and its metallic creaminess helps make it a great highlight shade for the browbone, inner eye and top of cheekbone.

Dandizette
Dandizette is a navy with silver pearl. I think it looks quite denim-y. I'm a sucker for metallic blue shadows and really, the collection is called Peacocky - I can't NOT buy a blue or green shadow, right? My favourite way to wear this shade is on the outside half of my eyelids, messily applied up to the crease.

Unflappable
Unflappable is a frosted black with purple pearl and my favourite of the three. It's a great smudgable shadow for the lashline, and gives an instant smokiness to any eye look.

The Mega Metal eyeshadows are all very creamy in texture and quite metallic. Dandizette and Unflappable aren't necessarily the best shadows to wear for a professional daytime look, but that doesn't stop me. Obviously their shine make them better suited to an evening look. Peek-At-You or one of the other lighter shades obviously work well as highlighters so they can be worn easily for day or night.

So the reason I opted to buy three, rather than just two Mega Metal shadows was because the MAC location I was at happened to be out of Q-tips (I know) so one of the MUAs handed me a brush to use to swatch the Peacocky shadows instead. This was not ideal as I couldn't clean the brush in between each swatch so only the first swatch would be true to its colour. I did the best I could with a tissue to clean off the brush but then I happened to swatch Unflappable and then Peek-At-You right after and I got the prettiest neutral metallic. I fell in love right there on the spot. See below. That's Unflappable topped with Peek-At-You. The sheen of Peek-At-You minimizes the intensity and darkness of Unflappable making it much more wearable and creating a whole new shade!

So there you have it! My three Peacocky Mega Metal eyeshadows. What do you think? Did you pick up any of the Mega Metal eyeshadows? Do you love metallic eyeshadows as much as B2 does?

Tell us!

MAC Peacocky Preview

BeautySquared hopes that you haven't spent all your giftcards and holiday cash on Cham Pale and Stylishly Yours because here comes Peacocky, available in North American stores and MAC counters on January 6th, 2010.

Arrogance or elegance? The showy display, the undeniably sexual spectacle, the iridescent irreverence…it’s awe-inspiring. We fetishize the exotic peacock as a symbol of extreme beauty, an act of elaborate nature, raging against everything simplistic. Peacocky fans out in a foray of intense colour for Lips and Eyes, exotic and sophisticated with a touch of ’30s F. Scott Fitzgerald glamour and mesmerizing metallic sheen. NEW Kissable Lipcolour combines full flash with creamy comfort. It’s molten, with elastomer technology that imparts a velvety, aerated feel without sacrificing shine. Light as a feather. Mega Metal Shadow gleams like chrome, with light-reflecting properties – yet creamy, crease-resistant, vitamin-fortified flexibility. Dramatic doesn’t even begin to describe the girl who knows she’s Peacocky.
