MAC Palace Pedigreed EOTD

The Palace Pedigreed quad released with MAC's fall offering, Fabulous Felines, is a cool collection of mauves and plums with a kick of blue gray. I was really curious as to whether the quad could function as a whole, as I wasn't sure how Palace Pedigreed (deep plum) would layer with Russian Blue (blue gray).

Products Used:

MAC Select Cover Concealer NC 35
MAC Blot Powder Medium Dark
MAC Palace Pedigreed Eye Shadow Quad
MAC Graph Black Technakhol Eyeliner
MAC Superslick  Liquid Eyeliner in Signature Blue
Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara in Very Black

Technique:

Set concealer with Blot Powder. Using a 242 brush, apply Courtly all over the lid up to just beneath the brow bone, as well as along the lower lash line. Next using a 239 brush, apply Quite Spoiled 2/3 of the way onto the lower lid from the outer corner of the eye in. Also run Quite Spoiled 2/3 of the way along the lower lash line. Using the 239 pack Palace Pedigreed on the outer 1/4 of the eye, winging it slighty up and out blending slightly into Quite Spoiled. Using a crease brush, such as 226 or 224, run Russian Blue into the crease, creating a "v" shape ending on the lower lash line. Blend the shadows lightly together using your finger or a 217. To increase the intensity of Palace Pedigreed, pack on extra shadow on the lid using the 239, blending only slightly at the edge that meets Quite Spoiled. Line the upper lash line using Graph Black liner, working the liner in between the upper lashes. Finish with black mascara.

After I finished this look I felt it need a bit more "punch" so I lined my upper lash line with Signature Blue Superslick liner.

General Comments:

I was fairly pleased with how this look turned out. I was unsure if this quad would turn muddy if all the colours were used together, but the result wasn't too murky. These photographs were taken indoors with flash, so the intensity of the shadows is a bit washed out. In real life this look was a fair bit darker. I think the Signature Blue liner really helps unify the blue and plums tones in this look. My main complaint with this quad is the hardness of Palace Pedigreed, which needs to be packed on to build any depth. I suggest using another plum toned shadow such as Nocturnal in its place.

MAC Fabulous Felines Superslick Liquid Eyeliner Review and Swatches

This fall, statement making eyeliner was all over the catwalks. MAC's highly anticipated fall collection - Fabulous Felines, delivers a new product designed to make those runway looks achieveable at home. The Superslick Liquid Eyeliner is a waterbased formula which applies with a firm pointed dense foam applicator. These are a LE product ($21.00 CA/ 17.50 US).

Available in nine highly pigmented shades, this liner is unique in that even when dry, it has a slighty shiny, wet look. Photos taken in natural light, NC 42 skin.

Pure Show and On the Hunt

General Comments

The best features of these liners are their intense colour and pigmentation, long wear and ease of application. I also love the glossy finish and the wide variety of shades. However, my main and somewhat large reservation with this product is the consistency of the formula and drying time. On MAC's website they claim that these liners dry in 15 seconds. When I tested these in the store I found they took at least 2-3 minutes to dry. As well, their consistency is very watery, which means while they are drying they are more prone to smudging and running. It also means that having an excess of product on the applicator could be an issue. I would suggest users have a hairdryer set on cool nearby to speed up the process (sounds silly but it works!). Either that or practice your meditation while waiting for one, then the other eyelid to dry!

My picks out of the bunch are Treat Me Nice, Desires & Devices, Smoky Heir, Signature Blue and On the Hunt.

What are yours?
